Spirit North is a national charitable organization dedicated to empowering Indigenous children and youth through the transformative power of sport, play, and land-based activities. Working in partnership with communities, schools, and families, we co-create culturally relevant programs that foster health, confidence, connection, and joy. With over 40 different activities offered year-round—from cross-country skiing and biking to traditional Indigenous games—Spirit North removes barriers to participation by providing free programming, equipment, and trained leaders directly in communities. Our approach ensures that every child has the opportunity to thrive through sport, regardless of geography, income, or circumstance.
Each year, Spirit North engages more than 21,000 Indigenous children and youth across Canada, creating ripple effects that strengthen families, schools, and communities. Independent evaluations show that our programs improve physical and mental well-being, increase school attendance and engagement, and nurture stronger connections to culture and land. In addition to the measurable outcomes, Spirit North inspires hope and belonging by providing positive role models and safe spaces for youth to discover their potential. The impact extends beyond individual participants—our work builds bridges of understanding, resilience, and reconciliation, helping to shape healthier, more vibrant communities for generations to come.
