“The Calgary Chamber of Commerce is encouraged by the Government of Alberta’s Speech from the Throne, outlining priorities of fiscal prudence, diversification and investing in quality of life. We are pleased to see a balanced approach between fiscal responsibility and investments in key economic opportunities – including AI and natural resources, as well as emerging industries such as aerospace, agriculture, critical minerals, environmental technology and tourism.
“The government’s commitment to expanding market access through pipelines, new trade corridors and pathways to markets in Asia and Europe provides new opportunities for businesses across sectors. With 19 per cent of Calgary’s small businesses pessimistic about the next year and 32 per cent expecting profitability to decline, market diversification is essential to help businesses grow, compete and secure Alberta’s economic future.
“Harnessing the Alberta Advantage by investing in infrastructure to meet our rapidly growing population – from health care and education to social services and infrastructure like roads and public transit – will be critical to ensure Alberta remains a magnet for talent. At the same time, we are pleased that these investments will be guided by fiscal prudence, with an emphasis on growing the Heritage Savings Trust Fund to secure long-term prosperity for future generations. This balance between strategic investment and financial responsibility will help sustain a productive workforce and ensure Alberta remains competitive for generations.
