On October 30, the Calgary Chamber hosted Mayor Jeromy Farkas for a keynote address and fireside chat with Calgary Chamber President & CEO, Deborah Yedlin. This address offered insights into the Mayor’s vision for Calgary over the next four years and his plan to position the city for long-term success.
Mayor Farkas began by acknowledging the challenges Calgarians and businesses have faced in recent years – rapid population growth, a global pandemic, economic downturns, high unemployment, affordability pressures and safety concerns. He emphasized his commitment, alongside City Council and Administration, to turning these challenges into opportunities and working together as “Calgary’s team.”
Mayor Farkas reaffirmed his dedication to the business community’s key priorities – competitiveness, safety, vibrancy and connectivity – emphasizing that when entrepreneurs and businesses thrive, the entire city benefits. He outlined a vision for a prosperous Calgary, ready to welcome two million residents through responsible growth and strategic investment. At the heart of this vision is a pledge to build an inclusive, forward-looking city of belonging, where every Calgarian feels at home and empowered to contribute.
During the fireside chat with Calgary Chamber President & CEO, Deborah Yedlin, discussion centered on key aspects of the Mayor’s plan, including:
- Investing in foundational infrastructure and quality of life to support residents, businesses and artists, while prioritizing fiscal discipline.
- A “back-to-basics” approach rooted in partnership and listening – engaging communities, businesses, non-profits and other levels of government to tackle shared challenges.
- Addressing safety and crime while ensuring access to mental health and social supports.
- Promoting a “Team Canada” mindset that encourages local procurement and supports Calgary businesses.
