“We welcome Alberta and Ottawa’s formal signing of the Cooperation Agreement on Environmental and Impact Assessment, marking progress on the MOU by addressing policy inconsistencies. Cumulative layers of regulation have weighed heavily on productivity in Canada, with a 40 per cent increase in regulatory requirements between 2006 and 2021 contributing to an estimated 1.7 per cent reduction in GDP growth. This agreement is a positive step toward enabling governments to operate at the pace of business – accelerating major projects that are critical to our economic transformation while reducing unnecessary duplication. We encourage Alberta and Ottawa to continue this momentum as both parties advance the remaining components of the MOU.”
