“We are pleased to see the official launch of the Build Communities Strong Fund included within Budget 2025 and the $1.9 billion allocated to Alberta within the provincial stream. Building a strong economy depends on Canadians having access to essential services, which provide the baseline conditions for economic activity. As Canada – and Calgary in particular – grapples with the effects of population growth, this fund comes at a critical time in supporting urban, rural and Indigenous communities with the infrastructure they need to grow, while also creating opportunities for local projects that enhance community well-being, such as the Olympic Oval and Werklund Centre. With 11 per cent of Calgary’s capital infrastructure in poor condition and $49 billion needed over the next decade to address the City’s infrastructure needs, such investment is vital in maintaining economic competitiveness while supporting overall quality of life.”
