“The Calgary Chamber is pleased to see City Council maintain the Free Fare Zone through downtown Calgary. The Zone serves as a vital driver of vibrancy and business activity, connecting workers and visitors to businesses across the downtown core and helping support the visitor economy, which generated $328 million in economic impact in 2025.
“As the City continues investing in downtown through the Culture & Entertainment District, the Free Fare Zone should be viewed not simply as a transit feature, but as essential economic infrastructure that supports downtown vitality and long-term municipal fiscal stability. With the future of the Zone set to be revisited in 2027, consideration should be given to the value it delivers to downtown businesses, as well as the opportunity to expand the Zone toward the Stampede Grounds to better support mobility for businesses, workers, residents and tourists alike.”
