“We welcome the launch of the Alberta Trade Discovery Centre in Calgary this fall, which will provide high school students with hands-on exposure to careers in the skilled trades. With 26 per cent of construction businesses in Calgary reporting challenges in recruiting skilled labour, and nearly 700,000 of Canada’s four million skilled tradespeople expected to retire by 2028, it is critical to strengthen awareness of opportunities within the trades. As governments and industry across the country work to deliver major projects, expand housing supply and build the infrastructure needed to support a growing economy and population, initiatives like this Centre play an essential role in developing the workforce required to meet that demand.”
