“The Calgary Chamber welcomes Alberta’s introduction of the Interprovincial Trade Mutual Recognition Act – an important step toward recognizing regulatory standards across provinces and enabling the freer movement of goods nationwide. Internal trade barriers add around 7.8 to 14.5 per cent to the cost of goods and services, constraining productivity and limiting national economic growth. For many Alberta businesses, it remains easier to trade with the United States than with other provinces. Reducing these barriers will help unlock access to domestic markets and lessen the need to look internationally for growth opportunities. We encourage continued provincial–federal collaboration to better align trade and labour standards, alongside infrastructure investment to improve the flow of goods and support a more integrated Canadian economy.”
