Through the Inclusion Pillar Partnership, RBC works alongside the Calgary Chamber to reduce barriers and create pathways for more entrepreneurs to participate fully in the local economy.
“Our goal is to be known for providing fair and inclusive opportunities for prosperity,” says Kirk. “That means helping clients achieve their goals, contributing to resilient communities and supporting employees in meaningful careers.”
This commitment reflects the importance of building inclusive workplaces and practices at every level of business. “Small and medium-sized businesses that are inclusive tend to perform better when employees can show up authentically,” Kirk explains. “It creates space for new ideas and stronger connections within the community.”
Recognizing leadership in inclusion
As part of this commitment, RBC is supporting the Inclusion Award at the Calgary Chamber’s Small Business Awards Gala during Small Business Week. The award shines a light on Calgary businesses that are advancing inclusion and creating welcoming environments for their teams and communities.
“We look at this award as a way to help small businesses work toward removing barriers and creating equitable opportunities,” Kirk says. “It is a chance to spotlight what makes the finalists unique and how they are initiating meaningful change.”
He adds that inclusion is more than a principle for these businesses. “Leadership in inclusion is about creating a safe space where people can be their authentic selves,” says Kirk. “This award recognizes businesses that are fostering positive relationships both in the workplace and in the community.”
