“The Calgary Chamber of Commerce acknowledges progress made on the Alberta-Ottawa MOU, despite no additional announcement today, and encourages both parties to continue negotiations toward a lasting agreement as a precondition for attracting investment. We are encouraged by commitments from both governments to advance the remaining priorities, including a carbon pricing agreement and a trilateral framework for the Pathways carbon capture and storage project. Getting the terms of this agreement right matters much more than getting it done quickly, and both parties have demonstrated a commitment to that approach.
“The importance of this agreement cannot be overstated. Ongoing instability in the Middle East continues to place global energy supply under strain, underscoring Alberta’s role as a reliable provider of oil and gas to international markets. At the same time, Canada’s regulatory processes and project approval timelines have long constrained productivity and delayed the development of critical infrastructure. With Canada lagging behind its G7 peers in establishing a clear and predictable regulatory environment, this MOU is essential in restoring investor confidence, enabling project development and ensuring Alberta can expand its export capacity – particularly through a pipeline to the West Coast – to meet growing global demand. We look forward to seeing the results of the MOU translate into regulatory certainty, allowing Alberta to deliver on its energy potential and advance national economic growth.”
