This month we marked one year since the first COVID-19 case was discovered in Calgary. While it has been a year of challenges and uncertainty, we are optimistic about the future of our city, our business community, and our organization.
The agile, empathetic and entrepreneurial response Calgary’s business community has demonstrated over the past year is nothing short of incredible, though not without its challenges. Now, with vaccine rollout accelerating, many feel there are brighter days ahead. In the meantime, we must continue to follow all public health guidelines to protect our families, colleagues and community.
Our optimism extends beyond vaccines. This year, the Calgary Chamber is marking our 130th anniversary of supporting our business community by making it easier than ever for businesses to join the Chamber and become part of Calgary’s vital business network. Current and new members will receive a 50 per cent discount on their annual membership for 2021. New members can access this discount until June, and current members will receive it whenever they renew in 2021. Together, we can strengthen the power and resiliency of Calgary’s business community.
We’re also advancing the Chamber’s purpose to nourish, power, and inspire Calgary’s business community through our ongoing strategic work and search for a new President and CEO.
Our strategic planning process continues to be led by the Chamber’s Board of Directors with the assistance of an external consulting firm, STRAAD, and has involved an extensive consultation process with our membership, and with business and community leaders. This input will assist in charting the next chapter for the Chamber.
The Chamber’s Board of Directors continues to be committed to an open, fair, and transparent CEO search, informed by the perspectives of Calgary business and community leaders. We are encouraged and excited by the strong interest from prospective candidates. The quality of potential candidates that have expressed interest reflects the importance of the Chamber platform, and the incredible opportunity that the position offers. The Chamber Board encourages anyone interested in suggesting individuals, or expressing their own interest in confidence, to reach out to our search consultants Janet Soles and Associates at chamber@jssearch.ca.
Often, spring is thought of as a time of renewal and positivity. As the voice of the Calgary business community, we are optimistic about this spring – for our community as we recover and emerge from COVID-19 stronger than before, for our growing Chamber movement, and for our strengthened and renewed direction.
Sincerely,
Interim CEO, Calgary Chamber
