“The Calgary Chamber of Commerce welcomes today’s announcement of an agreement-in-principle on methane emissions, demonstrating further progress on the Memorandum of Understanding signed last November. We are encouraged to see Alberta and Ottawa continuing to work collaboratively toward a shared objective – constructively modifying existing regulations with the goal of unlocking investment in Alberta’s oil and gas sector and advancing economic growth for the country. This agreement marks an important step in providing the policy certainty needed for industry to increase production.
“Amid rising global demand for Canadian oil and gas, particularly in light of ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Alberta is well positioned to provide a reliable source of supply to countries that have been over-reliant on one region to meet their needs. The current geopolitical turmoil highlights the importance of Canada expanding its access to new and emerging markets, and we see this agreement as another step toward achieving the goal of developing additional transportation infrastructure to reach tidewater. Alongside the recent agreement on impact assessments, we look forward to further progress on the MOU, including the industrial carbon price and the Pathways carbon capture and storage system.”
