Post Event Recap | A conversation with Hon. François-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry

On March 8, the Calgary Chamber hosted the Hon. Francois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, for a fireside chat with Deborah Yedlin, President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber, focused on innovation in Alberta, and Canada’s competitive role in the global economy.

The fireside chat covered topics including the importance of small business in building the economy of today, and tomorrow, highlighting the value of start-ups, as well as Alberta’s role in supporting national and global energy security. The Minister discussed LNG exports, and how investment tax credits can derisk innovation, enhance productivity, and decarbonize the national economy. Minister Champagne also provided insights on the proposed Emissions Cap and Clean Electricity Regulations, discussing their impact on investment in Alberta, and pointing to the importance of advancing projects such as Dow Chemical’s Path2Zero expansion project. Lastly, the Minister touched on the value of nuclear energy and the national Critical Minerals Strategy, declaring the world needs more of what Canada has to offer, from a resources perspective.

Minister Champagne ended the conversation by reiterating the value of Alberta’s energy industry, maintaining a competitive investment environment and being proactive in seizing the opportunity in Alberta and Canada’s economy.
