Calgary Chamber statement on federal cabinet shuffle

Calgary, January 12, 2021 – The Calgary Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate and wish the Honourable Francois-Phillipe Champagne, the Honourable Marc Garneau, the Honourable Omar Alghabra, and the Honorable Jim Carr success as they take on new ministerial portfolios.

“By working together, business and government can chart a strong path to economic recovery that supports innovation, diversification, and provides certainty and stability for business,” says Murray Sigler, interim CEO of the Calgary Chamber.

We look forward to collaborating with the Honourable Francois-Phillipe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry to bolster Canadian innovation and industry, with a particular focus on clean technology, commercializing and exporting made-in-Alberta solutions, and diversifying our economy. The Calgary Chamber would also like to thank the Honourable Navdeep Bains for his significant contributions to innovation, science, and economic development in Canada.

With the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, we look forward to working together to dismantle trade barriers, strengthen supply chains, and find new opportunities for business to grow internationally.

With the Honourable Omar Alghabra, Minister of Transport, we stand ready to support efforts to increase market access, including building the necessary infrastructure for our critical industries and regions to reach new and existing export markets.

We congratulate the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister without Portfolio and Special Representative to the Prairies and look forward to our continued partnership to ensure the priorities and unique challenges of Western Canada are reflected at the highest levels of federal decision-making.

These challenging times call for even stronger collaboration between government and business to ensure stability and success through and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. Continued collaboration and support, combined with the grit and resiliency of business, will be key to a strong and sustainable economic recovery for our city, our province, and our country.
