Calgary Chamber welcomes focus on economic recovery and inclusive growth in Canada-US partnership roadmap

The following statement is attributable to Murray Sigler, interim CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce:

Calgary, February 23, 2021 – “The Calgary Chamber welcomes the focus on supporting Canadian and American businesses, ending the COVID-19 pandemic, and inclusive growth outlined in the Canada-US partnership roadmap. Announced following the first bilateral meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, these priorities speak to the importance and impact of our bilateral relationship, building on our long and storied history as economic partners, friends, and neighbours.

“We are encouraged to see a specific focus on prioritizing and facilitating our shared economic recovery, combatting climate change through innovation, strengthening supply chains and market access, and working collaboratively at multilateral forums and institutions.

“We know that economic hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic has been felt more acutely by certain segments of the population, particularly based on gender. To that end, we welcome both leaders’ commitment to advance business and labour market participation for all Canadians and Americans.

“Our business community stands ready to support and lead an inclusive economic recovery that strengthens our communities and positions our economies for sustainable job creation, and continued stability and certainty.

“Canada and the United States share an innovative, creative, and collaborative spirit, and this will allow us both to emerge stronger from the challenges face, together, with a shared purpose.”
