CEWS extension and expansion important bridge to long-term sustainable recovery

CALGARY, AB – “The federal government’s decision to extend and expand the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program provides the much-needed support business need to bridge the gap to long-term, sustainable recovery.

“The Calgary Chamber is pleased to see our recommendations on behalf of Calgary’s business community reflected in today’s announcement, including:

“Extending the CEWS until December, including employers with a revenue decline of less than 30 per cent, and providing a gradually decreasing base subsidy to all qualifying employers demonstrates that the federal government is listening to Canadian business.

“In addition, the top-up subsidy of up to 95 per cent for heavily-impacted sectors is an important recognition of the uneven nature of our recovery.

“The road ahead may be long and bumpy, but we will get through this pandemic by remaining united in our resolve and innovative in our efforts.

“We look forward to continued partnership with all levels of government to ensure a sustainable and inclusive recovery through and beyond COVID-19 for our cities, provinces, and country.”
