The following statement is attributable to Deborah Yedlin, President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce:

Calgary, October 21, 2021 – “As the voice of Calgary business, the Calgary Chamber is focused on the path forward and solutions that position our energy sector for a competitive, sustainable and prosperous future as we transition to the low-carbon economy of the future. With energy as a central part of our economy today and in the years to come, Alberta must demonstrate its leadership as an innovative and responsible producer of natural resources.

“Now, more than ever, we require constructive and thoughtful dialogue, and the release of the provincial government’s public inquiry provides recommendations on which to move forward. We are encouraged by the future-focused nature of the recommendations outlined in the report, including meaningful dialogue on nation-to-nation reconciliation and economic development with Indigenous nations across Canada, and continuing to ensure Alberta remains a global leader in science, technology and innovation by maximizing and leveraging collaboration between all orders of government, private sector and academic institutions. Alberta has done this before and we now must move forward to ensure our resources can be responsibly produced for the benefit of future generations.

“Alberta’s energy sector has and will continue to play a critical role in reducing emissions and leading the transition to a low-carbon and net-zero future. The Pathways to Net Zero initiative is one example of the work industry is doing to meaningful reduce emissions and continuing this work will drive innovation and attract investment. The Calgary Chamber remains committed and ready to work with industry and governments to identify economic opportunities that allow us to address climate change and sustainably develop our resources, while ensuring certainty and stability for business.”
