The following statement on COVID-19 pandemic response is attributable to Deborah Yedlin, President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce:
Calgary, December 15, 2021 – “Today’s introduction of rapid tests for Albertans is welcome, enhancing our collective confidence as we move toward the holiday season. These tests can be easily used in a variety of settings – whether at home, in schools or recreation facilities – and are important tools, alongside measures already in place, to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We know that testing – and vaccinations – are two key measures that will reduce spread and ensure our economy can be open, sustainably and at capacity.
“Protecting the health of our community must remain a priority as a path to economic wellbeing. While businesses remain committed to the safety of our community – adhering to public health measures comes at a cost to their livelihoods. Now is the time for governments within Canada and around the world to work together to be responsive and adaptable in supporting businesses challenged by ongoing restrictions.
“In light of the suggestions to restrict international travel by the federal government, and the impact this could have on the already challenged travel and tourism industry, we also urge governments to examine options for continued support to businesses most affected by these announcements.”
The Calgary Chamber is an independent non-profit, non-partisan business organization. For 130 years, the Chamber has worked to build a business community that nourishes, powers and inspires the world.
