Small Business Award winner spotlight: MAXgreen Windows, Siding and Roofing

As this year’s CPA Alberta Social Entrepreneurship Award winner, MAXgreen Windows, Siding and Roofing was born out of a simple yet powerful idea: to provide a reliable, customer-focused service that not only delivers high-quality work but also gives back to the community.

Adam Jones, the company's President and CEO, saw a gap in the market for contractors who put homeowners first and prioritized doing the job right, rather than just focusing on profits.

"We started in 2010 because we saw a missing piece in the market for a good reliable contractor that actually does the work the right way and protects homeowners," says Adam.

"We felt that we could find a way to give back as well at the same time."

This dual focus on quality craftsmanship and community giving has been the foundation of MAXgreen's business model. What started as a modest initiative—$10 donated for every window or door replaced—has since grown into donating over $300,000 to charities and planting 15,000 trees.

As a leader in the industry, MAXgreen demonstrates that businesses can thrive while making a positive impact.

Setting new standards in the industry

What sets MAXgreen apart from others in the construction and home improvement industry is its commitment to quality and customer education. These sectors often lack formal training programs, and as a result, homeowners sometimes find themselves stuck with subpar work. MAXgreen aims to change that by raising the bar for industry standards and educating homeowners on the proper installation and long-term care of their homes.

"We're all about protecting the homeowners. A lot of the time, with windows and door siding and roofing replacements, there's no third-party checking on it to make sure things are done right," Adam explains.

"Unfortunately, there's no formal training programs in the industry for that type of stuff. So, what we want to do is bring a higher level of standard to the industry."

To back up its promise of quality, MAXgreen offers a unique 122 ½-year true lifetime workmanship warranty and a leak-proof guarantee, making it the only company in the sector with both.

Recognition as a social entrepreneur

Demonstrating dedication to both excellence and social responsibility, MAXgreen was recognized with this year’s CPA Alberta Social Entrepreneurship Award at the Calgary Small Business Awards.

With the award honouring companies that integrate social impact into their business operations, Adam shares that this achievement was meaningful, not only for the company but for the community it serves.

"It's pretty humbling to say the least," Adam shares. "It just goes to show that doing good can be good for business as well. The more you grow as a company, the more you can give back."

MAXgreen's social impact has always been a driving force behind the company’s success. With ambitions of reaching $1 million in donations and planting 100,000 trees, Adam shares that their focus isn't just on financial contributions but donating their time to local causes.

"We want to do more time investment and time donations—helping with community clean-ups, charitable initiatives and getting out in the community to show that we really do care. It's not just about writing a cheque and moving on.”

Additionally, MAXgreen has made mental health support a priority. In recent years, the company has contributed to mental health initiatives by directly funding counseling services for those in need.

"We're also big believers in mental health care and taking care of yourself. Jayme and I, who accepted the award with me, have both been through some mental health challenges. Over the last two years, we've donated a lot of our capital to pay for counseling for people who can't afford it," Adam explains.

A commitment to community

Looking ahead, MAXgreen aims to continue expanding its reach and impact. The company has already made inroads in British Columbia and is planning to expand into Saskatchewan. With new territory managers in place and a growing team, Adam is focused on maintaining the company's core values while extending its reputation for exceptional service and social responsibility across Canada.

"We've already got a bit of a presence in British Columbia. We just hired our first territory manager there, so we'll have a local presence. The plan is to expand it to Saskatchewan as well and really provide the high level of service that we feel customers deserve," says Adam.

With a vision of the company continuing to be a leader in the construction industry and in social entrepreneurship, Adam also notes the importance of furthering their commitment to ethical business practices and community involvement.

“We are looking at becoming a certified living wage employer and pursuing a B Corp certification. We are committed to the people, giving back to the community and doing things in ethical way.”

Through its commitment to quality, its focus on giving back and dedication to creating a positive work environment, Adam hopes that MAXgreen Windows, Siding and Roofing is setting a new standard for businesses in Alberta and beyond.

"We want to show other small business owners that you can start small, and even if it's just a small donation, it can grow as your business grows.”
